A Merritt restaurant has made the decision to temporarily close after a staff member contracted COVID-19.

Mongos Merritt posted on its Facebook page that a staff member tested positive for the virus and was last at work, Jan. 6.

The restaurant was closed right away and other staff members and the owners did not test positive, according to the post.

While Interior Health said it wasn't a requirement to shut down the restaurant, the owners decided to out of precaution and will await further instructions from the health authority.

The grill owners said they will post a reopening date on their Facebook page.

According to B.C. Centre for Disease Control's most recent data, Merritt has nine COVID-19 cases, which were recorded from Dec. 27 to Jan. 2.
