Missing person report leads police to plane crash at airport in Merritt, B.C.

MERRITT, B.C. - The Transportation Safety Board says it has assessed information gathered following a serious plane crash in Merritt, B.C., and will not be investigating further.

The board was contacted Feb. 10 when a crashed plane was found on the tarmac of the Merritt airport shortly after midnight.

RCMP were responding to a report of a missing person and an officer was checking the airport when the wreckage of the single-seat aircraft was found.

The pilot, a man in his 60s who was the subject of the search, was trapped inside and was treated for serious injuries after being cut free.

The City of Merritt maintains the airport and following the crash officials said they believed it happened after dusk on Monday but a report was not received for several hours.

They said the man had just moved to Merritt from out-of-province and was transferring his plane to the airport when it went down. (The Canadian Press, CHNL)
