Kamloops food offerings are getting a little cleaner and greener with a new juice bar and meal prep restaurant coming to the university neighbourhood.

Eat Clean Healthy Grill and Juice Bar is set to open by the end of the month, according to owner Roberta Nechvatal.

“I’ve been doing a lot of work just over the last year, looking for the right location. I’ve looked nearly everywhere in town,” Nechvatal says. “There have been some hurdles but I’ve been really lucky, it has been great.”

She says she wanted to pursue opening a franchise for the past three or four years, and after hearing news of the Eat Clean Healthy Grill and Juice Bar in Kelowna, she realized this was the business she wanted to start.

After upgrading a storefront location with renovations and electrical, she is now almost set to open up shop across from Thompson Rivers University.

Nechvatal believes that her location, taking up the space formerly filled by Shuswap business BeTeased, will be frequented by Thompson Rivers University students.

“Because it is an express model and it’s healthy food, I think that will appeal to the university demographic,” Nechvatal says. “They’re a lot wiser with making really good food choices nowadays and they’re a lot more health-conscious than perhaps my generation was at that age. Back then, we were being introduced to fast food at that time and now everybody is going back to eating healthier because we know what effects it has.”

Nechvatal says the restaurant will offer customizable meal prep options, as well dine-in meals and fresh juices and smoothies. There will be protein options such as bison, beef, chicken, fish and Beyond Meat products. She says many of the ingredients are sourced locally through the company, and as the weather warms up, she plans to work with Kamloops growers to maximize their local produce usage.
