Most actively traded companies on the TSX

Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (14,689.04, down 36.82 points):

Spectral Medical Inc. (TSX:EDT). Medical diagnostics. Down $1.37, or 85.09 per cent, to 24 cents on 16.9-million shares.

Aritzia Inc. (TSX:ATZ). Fashion retailer. Up $1.71, or 10.69 per cent, to $17.71 on 8.5-million shares. Aritzia shares began trading for the first time Monday, well above the price set in the run-up to the Canadian fashion retailer's initial public offering. One-vote subordinate Aritzia shares were about 13 per cent above the IPO price of $16 after about 90 minutes of trading Monday.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Down three cents, or 1.67 per cent, to $1.77 on 8.5-million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up 29 cents, or 2.12 per cent, to $14 on 5.5-million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Up three cents, or 0.54 per cent, to $5.60 on five-million shares.

Tethys Petroleum Ltd. (TSX:TPL). Oil and gas. Unchanged at three cents on 4.8-million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canexus Corp. (TSX:CUS). Chemicals. Down one cent, or 0.66 per cent, to $1.51 on 3.5-million shares. Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund is raising its bid for Canexus Corp. and taking it directly to shareholders, following opposition from the Calgary-based chemical company's board of directors. Toronto-based Chemtrade (TSX:CHE.UN) (up 30 cents, or 1.65 per cent, to $18.53 on 210,041 shares) is offering $1.50 cash per share of Canexus, which produces sodium chlorate — a chemical used by the pulp and paper industry.
