Most actively traded companies on the TSX

Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (14,763.98, up 203.56 points):

Northland Power Inc. (TSX:NPI.DB.C). Utilities. Up 75 cents, or 0.75 per cent, to $100.75 on 17.5 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Up 13 cents, or 4.92 per cent, to $2.77 on 11.5 million shares.

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Up 81 cents, or 6.61 per cent, to $13.06 on 9.9 million shares. The Financial Post reported that Samsung Electronics is actively pursuing a plan to take over or buy a significant stake in the Canadian company.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Down nine cents, or 3.33 per cent, to $2.61 on 9.7 million shares.

Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Financial service. Down $1.90, or 2.48 per cent, to $74.71 on 8.5 million shares. The bank moved to grow its wealth management business in the U.S. through an agreement to buy Los Angeles-based City National Corp. in a friendly cash-and-stock deal worth US$5.4 billion.

Romarco Minerals Inc. (TSX:R). Miner. Down six cents, or 9.52 per cent, to 57 cents on 8.1 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Agrium Inc. (TSX:AGU). Agriculture. Up $7.04, or 5.60 per cent, to $132.86 on 743,586 shares. The Calgary-based company announced an increase its target dividend payout ratio to 40 to 50 per cent of free cash flow from a range of 25 to 35 per cent.

Canadian Pacific Railway (TSX:CP). Transportation. Down 61 cents, or 0.27 per cent to $226.35 on 547,767 shares. The company beat profit and revenue forecasts but disappointed on its outlook.

Iamgold Corp. (TSX:IMG). Miner. Down six cents, or 1.53 per cent, to $3.86 on 3.3 million shares. It expects lower costs this year than in 2014 but output may also be lower at between 820,000 and 860,000 ounces of attributable gold production.
