Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,917.10, up 23.61 points):

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Up 16 cents, or 2.58 per cent, to $6.37 on 9.2 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 28 cents, or 4.46 per cent, to $6.56 on 8.3 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up six cents, or 0.88 per cent, to $6.85 on 7.9 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up 37 cents, or 4.03 per cent, to $9.55 on 7.7 million shares.

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Up 52 cents, or 5.98 per cent, to $9.22 on 7.4 million shares.

Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B). Miner. Up 17 cents, or 1.31 per cent, to $13.12 on 6.9 million shares.

Hudson's Bay Company (TSX:HBC). Retailer. Up one cent, or 0.07 per cent, to $14.61 on 412,067 shares. The company said it plans to open up to 20 stores in the Netherlands over the next two years as part of an aggressive push to grow its presence in Europe.

Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO). Miner. Up eight cents, or 4.97 per cent, to $1.69 on 537,819 shares. Wesdome is postponing its annual meeting by up to four weeks in response to a last-minute complaint by its largest shareholder, Resolute Funds, which said Monday that it doesn't think Wesdome's leadership is capable of addressing issues at the Eagle River gold mining complex in northwestern Ontario near Wawa.
