Man to stand trial for summer shooting

KAMLOOPS - The man accused in a shooting on Brunner Avenue over the summer is expected to go to trial early in the New Year.

Trevor Wilvers faces multiple charges including posession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without a license, unlawfully causing bodily harm and criminal negligence causing bodily harm after an incident with an innocent woman on June 4 of this year.

Wilvers, 35 at the time he was charged, was arrested at a Valleyview motel on June 6 for allegedly shooting a woman through the floor of a basement suite days earlier.

Police said at the time a 25-year-old woman was with her husband and five-year-old child in their suite when a gun went off upstairs, shooting her through the floor, causing her minor injuries. Wilvers was allegedly in an altercation with another man upstairs when the gun went off. Police also said at the time that Wilvers has a history of violence and was known to police.

He is expected to stand trial Jan. 13, 2014.
