Man ticketed after camp stove starts grassfire near Kamloops

Kamloops RCMP issued a hefty fine on Saturday after an outdoor barbecue started a grassfire.

Police responded to a ditch along Highway 5A, near Running Horse Ranch Road, around 1:30 p.m., July 17, where Kamloops Fire Rescue was already dousing a grassfire.

Police found after speaking with witnesses that a camp stove had fallen off a post and onto the grass below, according to a Kamloops RCMP press release.

A suspect was arrested near the scene and he was handed a ticket under the Wildfire Act, which can include a fine over $1,000.
