A man was struck and killed by a Canadian Pacific train in Kamloops last night.

The train was travelling on the CP railway between 1 Avenue and the Overlanders Bridge in Kamloops around 10:05 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 3, when he was hit, according to an RCMP media release.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified, but it won't be investigating the death. TSB spokesperson Chris Krepski said the man, in his 30s, was hit by a CP train and died as a result.

Krepski said the man was hit about 150 metres west of the 1 Avenue underpass, near Victoria Street West.

Kamloops RCMP, CP Railway Police and B.C. Coroners Service are now investigating.

“Part of our investigation into any sudden death includes talking to people who may have information regarding the victim and his recent movements,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “If anyone has dash camera or surveillance footage in the area of the railway tracks that night before police attended, please contact us as soon as possible.”

The City is currently installing a new fence further to the west from where the person was hit. The project includes 350 metres of fencing from the SunLife Financial building at 280 Victoria St. West to Overlanders Bridge.

Fencing is sporadic from 1 Avenue to the SunLife building, and places where there is fencing is often cut open or damaged.

iNFOnews.ca contacted Kamloops Fire Rescue and CP Rail for more information, but neither immediately responded.
