Man injured after driving car over embankment into yard at a north end business

A BMW came to rest against a steel frame in the yard at Emco Corporation on Pinto Road after the driver lost control and leapt off an embankment Saturday, June 28, 2014.

KELOWNA – A man was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital after he drove his car off an embankment in the city’s north end light industrial area Saturday afternoon.

At about 4 p.m., ambulance and fire crews responded to a waterworks plastic pipe manufacturer at 1999 Pinto Road off Sexsmith Road.

The BMW had leapt off the embankment, through a chain link fence, streaking across the yard before crashing into a steel stand holding a huge plastic pipe used as a sign for the Emco Corporation.

The vehicle dug a huge divot out of the lawn.

The victim was strapped to a back board with a neck brace for his trip to the hospital.

No word on how badly he was hurt, but it looks like he came to a sudden stop. The air bag in the car was deployed and the front windshield was smashed.

An injured man is loaded onto a stretcher to be taken by the B.C. Ambulance Service to Kelowna General after crashing his car on Pinto Road.
