Man hospitalized after being attacked in Kelowna back alley

KELOWNA - RCMP are looking for three stocky men suspected of seriously injuring a man in Kelowna just before midnight on Canada Day.

The incident happened at around 11:45 p.m. yesterday, July 1, in an alley in the 1600 block of Abbott Street, according to an RCMP media release. The victim had recently moved to Kelowna from the Lower Mainland and was taken to hospital unconscious with serious injuries that police did not suspect were life-threatening.

Police say three non-Caucasian men were seen running through the alley towards Okanagan Lake. All were described as about 6' tall with stocky builds.

One had facial hair and was wearing a black hoody and black pants. Another was believed to be in his 20s and was clean shaven and wearing a grey T-shirt. The third was wearing dark clothing.

The attack came on a weekend where police “responded to above normal alcohol-fuelled disturbances and public nuisance complaints,” Kelowna RCMP media liaison Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in an email. “For the most part, crowds were very well behaved following the conclusion of local festivities. Kelowna RCMP had an enhanced presence across Kelowna on both land and water during the celebrations."

Witnesses to the assault are asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
