VERNON - A 42-year-old man who crashed a dump truck he allegedly stole, spilling gravel all over the road, was later arrested running shirtless across the golf course at Predator Ridge.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release golfers at the resort spotted the man on the golf course and gave police clear directions so they could make the arrest.

The release states that police received a report of a theft of a vehicle shortly after 10 a.m. May 15 at the 9500 block of East Road, Vernon. While headed to the scene, police learnt of a man driving a dump truck full of gravel at high speed. Shortly afterwards the driver lost control and the truck flipped onto its side spilling the gravel, which resulted in part of the road being closed.

According to the release the man then fled up a steep embankment towards the Predator Ridge golf course. RCMP Air Services Unit and police dog were deployed and they located the man running through the golf course.

Police used golf carts to catch up with the man who was trying to hide.

The 42-year-old man from Hudson Hope remains in custody and faces possible charges of theft of motor vehicle.
