Later 2019, and hellloooo 2020. Feeling good about the sound of those numbers? I do. Let’s hold our glasses high, peoples and toast an amazing new year ahead.

Here are a few ideas on what to put in your toasting hand on NYE and NY day:

Thanks to micro bar *bites for sharing this gorgeous cocktail recipe to serve your partying pals NYE. If you are still looking for something fab to do on the big night, micro is having a par-tay with live music and all, so you can just order up one of these cocktails instead.

Although this cocktail features The Whole Truth Gin, which is the exclusive gin that RauDZ created with Okanagan Spirits, you can substitute Hendricks Gin at home. This delicious creation will be on the NYE menus (and into 2020) at both at RauDZ and micro.

Grapefruit, Ginger & Rosemary Mocktail

So refreshing and pretty as well. It’s the perfect light drink after the holidays and for NYE, with some hidden healthy ingredients like apple cider vinegar. I’m sure your family and friends will love it.
(makes 2 glasses):

2 fresh grapefruit
2-3 sprigs of rosemary
Fresh ginger (approx. 2-3 cm)
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp maple syrup
approx. 200 ml tonic water or mineral water
pomegranate seeds

Juice the grapefruit, cut ginger into slices and put 2-3 slices in each glass with the needles of a 1/2 sprig of rosemary and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Pound with a pestle or wooden spoon. Add 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, split the grapefruit juice into the 2 glasses and fill up with tonic water or mineral water. Add 2-3 ice cubes. Use pomegranate seeds, slices of grapefruit and the rosemary sprigs as decoration and enjoy cold.

Beertails are a great way to start the day!

And then for new New Years Day… Beertails are the answer. Combining beer and juice is far from a new idea but I feel it can now have another rebirth during the craft beer movement that we are currently marching in. Basically lemon soda and beer is known as a Shandy and in Germany they call it a Radler. It is perfectly refreshing in the summer but what the heck, winter works too. Or you can use orange juice and make a Beermosa. OJ and Hefeweizen is a delicious brunch drink. Like a version of the classic mimosa, it is an acceptable morning bevvie. Remember Clam pints in the ‘80s? You could go retro and make those – great for hangovers. Did you know this combo was invented in Western Canada? And that Canada is the exclusive home to Clamato juice (yes we are weird).

Shandy/ Radler: 50/50 ratio beer with lemon soda, lemonade or ginger ale – lemon slice for serving.

Beermosa: ¼ glass orange juice and ¾ beer – orange slice or serving

Clam Pint: 1 pint of beer (preferably lager) with 2 ounces of Clamato juice. To make it spicy and Mexican style, either use spicy Clamato juice or add a couple of shots of Tabasco and a squeeze of lime.
