KAMLOOPS - Sally came to the SPCA a stray and was never claimed.
She is looking for a home without children or other pets, according to a media release by Lyndsay Stewart from the Kamloops SPCA.
Sally needs a patient, gentle and cat-savvy guardian says the release.
Though she seems to want attention she can be nervous and sensitive about petting and will swat or scratch when she gets easily scared. It may take her a while to get used to new situations, and she will like having a hiding place to feel safe.
The shelter environment has been stressful for Sally. Stewart hopes once she is out of the shelter environment she will calm down and her “affectionate side will be able to blossom.” She adds that Sally seems to want attention and will roll around and rub on things when spoken to.
Any new guardian should be prepared for some petting aggression. Sally may like a bit of petting but will let you know when it is over. Stewart recommends guardians learn her body language and build her trust.
Shelter staff can provide ways to work on petting aggression. Stewart writes, “In the right home Sally has the potential to become a loving companion [...] but she needs someone to give her a chance.”
