KAMLOOPS - Tommy, 10, is a friendly and affectionate Labrador bursting with energy.

Animal care attendant Lyndsay Stewart at the B.C. SPCA shelter in Kamloops advises new guardians to be prepared for Tommy's bubbly personality. He does not let his age rust the spring in his step, and loves to spend time with people.

Due to his age he would do better in an average household where he could take regular walks and receive lots of attention. He reportedly walks well on a leash, but gets excited sometimes and may jump. Overall, Stewart says, Tommy is a gentleman.

Stewart recommends a health-conscience diet that aims to ward off arthritis, which may come up later in his life.

This dog is not suitable for cats, and introductions to smaller dogs should be supervised and positive. Stewart says he may get anxious when left alone at first, and it will take time to train him to be comfortable by himself.

For more information about Tommy contact the staff at the Kamloops SPCA. His animal ID number is 453033.

Visit the shelter's webpage for more information such as location, adoption fees and hours of operation.
