KAMLOOPS, B.C. - A 16-year-old boy who admitted to hitting a Kamloops, B.C., man over the head with a longboard and causing the victim to suffer brain damage has been sentenced to two years' probation.
Provincial court Judge Stephen Harrison says the teen can't own a skateboard during that time but will get much-needed care in an intervention program.
The attack happened outside a convenience store in March 2013, after the teen jaywalked in front of a vehicle that Michael Forry was riding inside.
The two were involved in a heated confrontation that ended with the teen slamming his longboard into Forry's head.
Forry says 49 screws and 52 staples were need to put his skull back together.
Forry says that when he awoke from a coma, he wanted to see the boy punished but that after listening to court testimony about the teen's chaotic childhood he wants him to get help.
