A llama named Lyle is making people smile as he runs up and down the side of the road on the way Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton.

It is unclear where the llama lives along Green Mountain Road but what is clear is that passersby are enjoying his antics when he escapes.

“At first we thought it was a horse,” Vancouver resident Jori Findler said. “Nope, it was a llama. When we head back up next week we will be looking for him.”

Findler owns a place at the resort and saw the llama for the first time last week. She posted a photo of it on Facebook, and several others from the area identified the animal as Lyle, a llama who often escapes.

“I love this little dude,” Keremeos resident Nichol Ramsay said. “He’s just out there running his little heart out, living his best life.”

Ramsay and her co-workers have seen Lyle almost every day for over a year while they travel from the Keremeos area to clean houses at Apex Mountain Resort.

She said the llama never fails to cheer the group up especially after a long hard day at work.

“We always giggle and laugh because when he runs he looks like he is smiling,” she said. “Sometimes we stop and try to pet him and he takes off. He escapes his pen and goes out running, enjoying his freedom, carefree in the world. It just makes us feel happy.”
