Dear Editor,

On October 23, 2014 our friend (Lindsey Hauck) was seriously injured in a car accident which killed another friend (Erin Smith) both nurses in Vernon. We organized a fundraiser which took place on January 31, 2015 and it was called “Sugar Skull Party/Fundraiser for Lindsey Hauck”, which raised over $6500!!

We had a caterer malfunction 2 days before, which we managed to pull together and fix, with the help of some friends and numerous members of the community who stepped in and helped with cooking, donating platters and gift cards which were used to buy food. We had over 70 items in the silent auction, as well as people who helped keep the food tables stocked, and people who helped clean up afterwards. The event was an enormous success and it was thanks to all of the following people/businesses:

Several people painted others’ faces, and we apologize for not writing their names down, but they deserve thanks too!! Out of approximately 130 people, only about 20 were not painted by the end of the night so thank you to everyone who spent some time helping everyone get painted up Sugar Skull Style!!

We wanted to thank Charlotte Helston from Infonews for writing the story about the fundraiser as well as other stories about Lindsey, the stories were very well written and informative. Last but not least, thank you to everyone who came and took part in the fundraiser, whether it was bidding in the silent auction or dancing to the amazing bands!! Everyone coming together as a community made the night fun for all of us, and especially for Lindsey!!
