Lake Country man airlifted to hospital after crash on Westside Road

NORTH OKANAGAN - A Lake Country man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a motorcycle crash on Westside Road yesterday.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release the three-vehicle incident took place around 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, near Mary’s Emerald Bay Road.

The 38-year-old Lake Country man was travelling northbound on Westside Road driving a motorcycle when he collided with an SUV making a left hand turn onto a side road. The motorcycle then collided with a pickup truck travelling behind the SUV.

"As a result of the initial impact, it appears the operator of the motorcycle was thrown from the motorcycle prior to the motorcycle colliding with the third vehicle," RCMP Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release. "Due to the seriousness of the motorcyclist injuries, B.C. Air Ambulance attended to the scene to transport the man to hospital."

The four occupants of the SUV and the single occupant of the pickup truck were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
