'L' driver caught racing at 199 km/h in Vancouver
A 19-year-old driver with his learner's licence was pulled over going 199 km/h in an 80km/h zone, on Friday, police say.
The driver was caught racing another car on the Upper Levels highway and given a total of $1,500 in fines for excessive speed, driving without due care or attention, and driving contrary to restrictions.
The learner was also driving without supervision, and with too many passengers.
The car has been impounded for seven days, according to an RCMP press release issued today, Oct. 2.
The 19-year-old’s response when he was pulled over: The other driver was going faster, police said.
RCMP were unable to catch the second racer.
“Speed remains as the number one cause of death on our roadways,” Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP, Const. Mansoor Sahak, said. “When it comes to speeding and dangerous driving, every death is a preventable death. We are committed more than ever to stopping irresponsible drivers through enforcement and education.”
