KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 6-0 on Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, opening up a weekend home and home series with the Giants with a convincing win.

Jordon Cooke earned his third shutout of the season, stopping 31 Vancouver shots and making several incredible saves along the way, before the Rockets pulled away in the third period.

Rookie Nick Merkley scored twice to hit the 20 goal plateau and Damon Severson added three assists to lead the offense.

Myles Bell had his team leading 41st of the season while Mitch Wheaton, Tyrell Goulbourne and Madison Bowey also scored the Rockets.

The win improved Kelowna's record to 51-9-0-4 on the season, just a win shy of tying the club record 52 wins set last year.

Kelowna and Vancouver will meet again tomorrow in Vancouver before the Rockets return to Prospera Place on Wednesday to host Spokane.
