KELOWNA — An undercover police investigation into drug trafficking in Kelowna has resulted in dozens of arrests.

Kelowna’s RCMP Downtown Enforcement Unit made several arrests this week following a multi-phase undercover operation over the months of May and June regarding drug trafficking in Kelowna, according to a news release issued today, June 25.

Police say they will be forwarding 49 counts of drug trafficking against 32 targets to the B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration.

Undercover officers bought fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine during the investigation, RCMP say.

“Identifying those persons responsible for sale and distribution of illicit and dangerous drugs on our streets is a high priority for the Kelowna RCMP,” Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Greg Woodcox says in a release. “Our frontline will continue to take action in an effort to reduce the supply of deadly illicit substances being trafficked in our community, and take steps to identify supplies both locally and regionally.”

Yesterday, June 24, Joey Derrick Point, 28, of Kelowna was sentenced to 42 months in prison for five counts of trafficking a controlled substance, police say.

He was one of 99 people arrested in a 2018 RCMP undercover drug operation for trafficking heroin.
