Kelowna police use Emergency Response Team to nab suspect in motel room

KELOWNA - A Kelowna motel was surrounded by well-armed police on Saturday evening as the RCMP arrested a 29-year-old man.

A RCMP news release issued today, Feb. 25, did not indicate what the man is charged with, but says the Emergency Response Team was called in to help arrest the man at 9:40 p.m. at a motel in the 1500 block of Highway 33.

“Two individuals were taken into police custody without incident, including a 29-year-old Kelowna man, known to police and wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the news release. “Front line officers chose to err on the side of caution and call for the support of the specially trained tactical officers to assist with the potentially high-risk arrest and entry into the suite.”

An imitation firearm was recovered by police at the scene. The 29-year-old Kelowna man was held in police custody and later released after a bail hearing. He is expected to appear in court next on February 28.
