Kelowna police officers injured by distraught man

KELOWNA - One RCMP officer was sent to hospital for treatment and others sustained minor injuries yesterady after police helped subdue a man in need of medical treatment.

Police were called to assist fire and ambulance crews who were having trouble with a man who they described as acting “irregularly,” states an RCMP news release. The incident happened in the area of Glenmore and Watson Roads just before 6 p.m. yesterday, March 20.

Initially, they were able to apprehend the man without incident. The man later ran away into a gated community.

Numerous officers gave chase and were able to subdue the man but not before several officers suffered minor injuries. The release doesn't mention any injuries suffered by the man.

“This incident serves as a reminder of how each and every day, police officers place themselves at risk to protect the communities they serve,” RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, said in the press release.
