Kelowna resident David Dube was shocked after winning $500,000 with a Lotto Max Extra ticket.

He scanned it at a Kelowna grocery store while his girlfriend waited in the car.

“I ended up having to call her to say, ‘come inside’, she could not believe it!” Dube said in a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release.

He had purchased the ticket at the Rock Creek General Store for the January 19 prize draw on his way home from a work trip.

“I honestly hoped for a lottery win, but I never thought it would happen,” Dube said. “The hope and dream is now real.”

Dube is going to purchase a new vehicle and tent trailer with his unexpected winnings. He also wants to give some to his family.
