KELOWNA – “I think you’re a fairly bad driver.”

That’s what a judge told a Kelowna man who got in a car accident while on a two-year driving prohibition for a 2012 accident that killed a West Kelowna mother of two.

Jordan Wayne Garvin, 27, pled guilty to driving while prohibited after he was involved in an accident in West Kelowna on May 30, 2016.

Garvin previously spent 15 months in custody for a conviction of dangerous driving causing death for trying to run a yellow light and T-boning a left-turning vehicle at the Ross Road intersection in West Kelowna. Cindy Thomas, a 47-year-old mother of two from West Kelowna was killed instantly and her fiancée seriously injured.

During the three-day trial it was heard that Garvin was travelling 160 km/h when he hit Thomas.

On Monday, Feb. 6 Garvin pleaded guilty to driving while prohibited and was given another 18 month driving prohibition but was spared jail time.

“You will go to jail if you are caught driving again,” judge Jane Cartwright said. “I think you’re a fairly bad driver. You seem like a bad driver.”

He was also fined $500 and encouraged to enroll in driving school once his prohibition is completed.
