KELOWNA - RCMP are warning Kelowna residents to be on the lookout for a returning door-to-door scam.

On Nov. 15, RCMP received a tip about an alleged fraudster asking for money from residents and motel guests in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Road in Kelowna's Mission, according to a media release.

The scammer apparently targets elderly people in the early hours of the day. The suspect tells a false story about their car breaking down in the hopes of fleecing people out of money under the guise of calling for a tow truck.

Police suspect someone may have been convinced to loan $150 to the scammer, although this person has yet to come forward.

"Our investigators, who are making efforts to identify that potential victim, would like to speak with that individual," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said in the release.

RCMP are warning residents to be cautious and are asking for anyone with information on the scam to come forward. People with information can contact Const. Cherly Duggan at 250-762-3300.
