KELOWNA - A cyclist who suffered serious injuries during a collision with a truck yesterday in downtown Kelowna has died in hospital.

A 58-year-old man was sent by ambulance to Kelowna General Hospital yesterday, Aug. 7, after a collision between a cyclist and a full size pick-up truck at Doyle Avenue and Richter Street.

RCMP have not released his identity.

Police alleged the cyclist was not wearing a helmet and may have veered suddenly into traffic, Kelowna RCMP media officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a press release.

Both the victim and the driver of a black Ford F-350 were reportedly driving southbound on Richter Street, police said.

A collision reconstructionist spent yesterday afternoon at the scene of the collision. The 60-year-old driver of the pick-up has been cooperating with police.

Police would like anyone who witnessed this collision, or may have dashcam footage from around that time and place, to contact the municipal traffic section at 250-762-3300.
