After learning that some people are struggling to cook for themselves, a Kelowna chef is offering his expertise to ensure that everyone gets a tasty meal.

Kevin Negoro is an executive chef at Deli City Catering. Since he’s not working during the pandemic, Negoro decided to put his skills to use by posting to Facebook in Caremongering Kelowna.

“A lot of people can’t cook for themselves, they don’t have the capacity to, or it’s too stressful,” he said.

Negoro will make and deliver the food, asking for a donation of whatever people can afford.

After posting about it in the Facebook group, people have started reaching out, he said.

“I’ve had quite a few people inquiring about it, especially people who are trying to look after their parents or grandparents,” he said. “As chefs, every day we’re feeding people that want an experience or don’t want to cook at home, so I figured that especially in a time of need (I can help.)”

“I went shopping 10 days ago and there were no ingredients on the shelves… So I’m thinking for people that are limited on being able to get out and get groceries or don’t have the capacity or skill level that I have, it’s stressful for people.”

There are only so many pasta and Mr. Noodle dishes people can enjoy before they get sick of them, he said.

Negoro said he can also help people prepare meal plans, being well versed in dietary restrictions.

“There’s definitely a need for it. From the responses I got, I know a lot of people can’t cook for themselves.”
