A man and a woman who are well-known to the Kelowna RCMP were caught in a stolen truck yesterday.

A stolen GMC Sierra was located by police at a residence in the 1000 block of El Paso Road on Aug. 10, according to a release from the RCMP. While conducting surveillance, police observed a male and female drive the stolen truck to a business. They were then arrested without incident.

The RCMP has identified the man as 32-year-old Tyler Jack Newton and described him as dangerous. Newton is known for killing a man on a city bus in an unprovoked attack in 2014.

The woman’s name was not released but she is well known to police, according to the elease.

Possession of stolen property over $5,000, failure to comply with probation orders, and operating a conveyance while prohibited are among the charges that have been recommended.

“These individuals have a long history of criminal activity in our community,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release. “Thanks to the great work of our officers they are back in custody and will appear before the courts with a list of recommended charges.”
