Kelowna basement fire deemed not suspicious, residents out of home

KELOWNA - A fire has left residents of a basement suite in the 1300 Block of Highland Drive South has w

Kelowna Fire Department was called to the fire at 4 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, and the first arriving unit reported smoke in the rear basement suite area.

The fire was located and extinguished quickly limiting the fire damage to the suite involved. Smoke did migrate to the upstairs residence but, was ventilated quickly.

"The residents of the affected suite were taken to KGH by EHS to be checked for smoke inhalation," platoon captain Tim Light said, in a press release.  "The fire is under investigation, however, it is not deemed, to be suspicious."

The occupants of the fire suite, are not insured and are being cared for by family.

Emergency Support Services was called to support the upstairs residents due to smoke damage.

The Kelowna Fire department urges the public to dispose of smoking materials responsibly.
