Kamloops's Ribfest to return to Riverside Park next month

KAMLOOPS - It's almost time for the city's annual Ribfest.

In just a few more weeks, Riverside Park will be filled with ribbers, entertainment, and a fun zone for a whole weekend. The Daybreak Rotary Kamloops Ribfest will take place from Aug. 10 to 12.

The annual event offers residents a chance to try out some of the best sauces and ribs as well as a chance to enjoy several family fun activities and entertainment. And aside from being a fun-filled weekend, a new study shows the annual rib festival also provides a local economic boost.

At this week's regular council meeting on Tuesday, July 17, councillors and mayor received an economic impact report prepared by O'Leary and Associates Ltd. which showed what the economic impact is from the annual rib cookoffs.

In 2017, Ribfests across the province generated between $3.9 million and $5.97 million in total economic contributions. Sectors that saw an increase in business during the Ribfest weekends included vehicle rental agencies, taxis, retail shopping, campgrounds, hotels, and restaurants.

From 2012 to 2016, Ribfest has raised more than $390,000 to support local and youth senior programs in Kamloops, according to the report.
