KAMLOOPS - If you're looking for a union job with decent pay, you may want to look to the cannabis industry.

The provincial government is hosting a job fair in Kamloops next week, and they're looking to hire for several positions for the province's first government-run recreational cannabis store which will be located in Kamloops.

According to several job postings on Indeed and the government's website, the pay for positions in Kamloops will range from roughly $40,000 to $45,000 annually, and the position will be under the B.C. Government Employees' Union.

There are eight spots to fill at the future pot shop, including cannabis product consultants, who are required to have a passion for transferring the knowledge of and selling of cannabis product. According to the posting, the role requires someone with a diploma or certificate in business or another related field, with a minimum of one year recent, related experience and basic cannabis knowledge.

B.C.'s Liquor Distribution Branch will be holding job fairs across the province ahead of legalization which is anticipated to be later this year. This includes a job fair in Kamloops next Thursday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton on Rogers Way.

At the fair, the branch is recruiting for positions of store manager, assistant store manager, and cannabis consultants.

The province and the City announced earlier this month that the first government-run cannabis shop in B.C. would be in Kamloops, thanks largely to the city's zoning preparedness. The store is expected to set up shop in the Columbia Place Shopping Centre, although no opening date has been set yet.
