KAMLOOPS - Wineries in Kamloops walked away from a national championship with 10 medals.

Kamloops Wineries Association says in a news release the 37th annual All Canadian Wine Championships were held in Ontario from June 12 to 14, and Privato Winery, Harper's Trail Estate and Monte Creek Ranch took top honours.

Along with the five top medals, the release states, Kamloops wineries racked up another five including one gold, three silvers and a bronze.

“We are overjoyed to have won a number of medals at the All Canadian Wine Championships this year, including two Best in Category Double Golds,” Galen Barnhardt, winemaker with Monte Creek Ranch, says in the release.  “The continued success of the Thompson Valley wineries on both the national and international stage is really starting to turn some heads and speaks to the quality of both the terroir and the wineries here in the Kamloops area.”

Harper's Trail won a double gold and best in category for the 2016 estate-grown Cabernet Franc, along with a pair of silver medals for the 2017 Pioneer Block Riesling, and 2016 Pinot Noir.

“Winning such a prestigious award affirms the local terroir and quality from our Thadd Springs Vineyard here in the Kamloops Thompson Valley,” Harper's Trail owner Vicki Colett says in the release.

Other top wines included the Monte Creek Ranch 2016 Sparkling Reserve, the 2016 Chardonnay, the 2015 Cabernet Merlot, the Privato 2015 Tesoro Pinot Noir, the 2014 Grand Reserve Pinot Noir, and the Harper's Trail 2016 Cabernet Franc.

All of the ten award-winning wines from the three wineries are available directly from the wineries or from select restaurants and establishments in the province.
