KAMLOOPS — The West Victoria Street Improvement Project is making progress and Kamloops motorists are being advised of some changes starting this weekend.

In a news release issued today, May 9, the City's capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says Sunday, May 12, Extreme Excavating will begin stage two of the construction project.

“Stage two will encompass the Victoria Street West corridor from Seymour Street West near the BCLC upper parking lot entrance to just west of Boomers Automotive near the Overlanders Bridge,” Crundwell says in a media release. “Construction will be restricted to the south side of the road, with traffic travelling on the north side of the road in two lanes — one in each direction.”

Crews will begin removing asphalt from the south side of the road throughout the construction zone starting the evening of May 12.

The traffic light at the south end of the Overlanders Bridge on Victoria Street West will be deactivated to allow motorists coming from Summit Drive or Mission Flats heading to the North Shore to move freely onto the bridge. Drivers travelling west on Victoria Street and heading to the North Shore will also be able to move freely onto the bridge.

Stage one construction continues between 1 Avenue and centre island at Seymour Street West and Victoria Street west. Current stage one traffic flow patterns will remain in place with transit and emergency service vehicles to continue to receive priority routing around the construction zone.

For stage one construction, crews are continuing sanitary and water main work.

Businesses along Victoria Street West are still open and accessible, along with those located within stage one below the BCLC building and those located on both sides of the road with stage two.

The City is also a reminding all motorists of the posted 30 km/h speed limit throughout the construction zone.

Stage one and two work will overlap until approximately the end of July.
