KAMLOOPS - After more than 20 years with the Terry Fox Foundation the organizer of the Kamloops instalment of the national fundraiser has stepped down due to changes in her family life. The organization is now looking for someone to step into the role for this year's run, scheduled for Sept. 18.

“I’m not sure we can make that commitment,” April Bruder says.

Bruder, a customer service manager with Scotiabank, says her life is going through some changes and organizing the annual run is a commitment she can’t make going forward, though she does expect to be involved in some way in the future.

The foundation is looking for someone who can spend two to four hours a week organizing the run, promoting it and recruiting organizing committee members.

The whole family played a role in the organization of the event including Bruder’s two teenage daughters who grew up with the annual run a part of their lives.

“When I first started I was single, no kids, no husband,” she says. “When I first got to Kamloops I wanted to meet people.”

The new organizer will have to be committed to Fox’s dream, make sure they have a work-life balance and be able to get people to commit to working on the committee. Getting people to work on the organizing committee was the most difficult part, Bruder says, which is why her family’s participation was important.

Someone has already approached her interested in taking over the position.

"I’m sure someone will step forward."
