KAMLOOPS - A two-day enforcement operation in Kamloops earlier this week has resulted in a number of arrests and seizures.

Kamloops RCMP's Crime Reduction Unit and Targeted Enforcement Unit teamed up with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit to target criminal activity on Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Cpl. Jeff Bingley of the Crime Reduction Unit says in a news release a large number of person and vehicle checks were completed, resulting in a number of arrests and seizures.

Bingley says that includes a large quantity of heroin and cocaine being seized after a vehicle stop, resulting in two people being arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking, a man being arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking after approximately 45 packages of cocaine were located and seized during a vehicle stop, and six people arrested with outstanding warrants.

He says three other individuals were arrested for violating probation conditions, two vehicles were impounded after the drivers were found to be impaired by drugs and were given 24-hour driving prohibitions, and one man was found driving while being suspended under the criminal code and motor vehicle act. The vehicle was impounded and stolen property was recovered from inside the vehicle.

A man was also located and arrested in connection to a bait car activation in which a suspect is alleged to have stolen property from the car. There was a second bait car activation in which a man stole items from inside and police are actively looking for him.

Prohibited weapons were also seized during the operation, Bingley says.

This operation comes after a spat of gun violence in the city.
