Kamloops RCMP searching for owner of abandoned vehicle in Savona

KAMLOOPS - Despite two days of searching, there's no sign of a Lower Mainland man after his vehicle was found abandoned in Savona.

On Sunday, July 31, Kamloops Rural RCMP received a report of an abandoned vehicle near the dump road in Savona, according to a media release. The vehicle is registered to a man from the Lower Mainland but he was nowhere to be seen.

RCMP aren't saying what kind of vehicle was found.

"Officers searched the area on foot, with ATVs and using a police dog," Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. "The RCMP boat patrolled Kamloops Lake near the area as well. The man was not located."

Yesterday, Aug. 1, volunteers with Kamloops Search and Rescue joined the search.

Shelkie says investigators are trying to track down the vehicle owner’s family to see if they've been in touch with him.

"Foul play is not suspected and the search will continue until the registered owner is located," she says.

Police aren't saying where in the Lower Mainland the man is from, nor are they releasing the man's name, age or a description.
