UPDATE: Suspect arrested in North Shore police standoff

KAMLOOPS – The man involved in a standoff with Kamloops RCMP on the North Shore has walked out of the North Shore home and surrendered to police.

Officers responded to the 200-block of Cypress Avenue after RCMP received a call about a disturbance at around 6 a.m. today, June 19, according to a news release.

“Once there, a male inside of the home refused to come out,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release.

Police say the man was the only person inside the residence and there are no firearms inside. Police had been negotiating with the man over the phone.

RCMP say no neighbouring residences were evacuated and there was no risk to the public. Police had partially closed Cypress Avenue during the standoff.

The unidentified suspect remains in custody and will be facing charges.
