Kamloops RCMP call in backup to find suspects who crashed stolen vehicle
Two people were arrested after they crashed a stolen car in Kamloops.
The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Lillooet, and an RCMP officer spotted it while conducting a routine patrol near 2 Avenue and Lansdowne Street around 10:15 a.m. today, on Dec. 14, according to an RCMP release.
Officers followed the vehicle to the North Shore where they tried to pull it over.
“At that point, the vehicle allegedly evaded police in a manner that was dangerous to the public,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “The vehicle was located shortly after on the 200 block of Schubert Drive, where it crashed into a barricade and its occupants fled on foot.”
Numerous police officers and the Police Dog Service Unit were called to help find the suspects who were quickly located nearby, RCMP said.
Both suspects remain in custody. One has outstanding warrants from Merritt related to firearm and drug trafficking charges.
Anybody with information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference number 2022-44290.
