Kamloops RCMP arrested a 41-year-old man slumped over the steering wheel of a stolen truck earlier this week.

According to a Kamloops RCMP media release, police were waved down by a pedestrian at around 10:20 a.m., Jan. 17, who pointed out a man slumped over the steering wheel of an idling truck at the end of Spurrway and Huckleberry roads.

"With the assistance of backup, the officer took a man into custody without incident," Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Corp. Crystal Evelyn said in a media release. "A search related to the investigation also led to the seizure of a firearm and ammunition."

Police checks also showed that the truck was stolen.

Logan Lake resident John Wasyl Swystun, 41, was later charged with improper storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 20.
