KAMLOOPS - A local property management group has purchased a Sahali property and plans to tear down the building, which previously housed a sports bar, to build a new apartment complex.

Jason Fawcett, vice president of operations for Kelson Group, says they are looking at building a complex with over 100 suites.

The company is planning to tear down the building which currently houses a liquor store and previously was home to a number of different pubs, most recently Sports Central Lounge, he says. Before going ahead with a zoning application with the city, Kelson Group will be talking to the community though.

“We have preliminary plans that we are working with,” Fawcett says. “We’re going to consult with the neighbourhood first before we submit an application to the city.”

The site had been listed as 2.75 acres of land for $2.9 million.

If things go as planned, Fawcett says they would begin work on the site in the late summer or fall of 2016. An exact start date depends on the community consultation, rezoning application with the city and liquor store's lease. A press release says completion is targeted for late 2017.
