Fargo, the Kamloops RCMP police dog, celebrated his eighth birthday yesterday.

He's five year veteran of the Kamloops RCMP, with his partner, Cpl. Steve Prior, but he's been performing police duties longer than that.

The pair served in Newfoundland together before they transferred to B.C., according to an RCMP media release.

Fargo has been a lifelong officer, born on June 2, 2013 at the Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta.

Last year, Fargo was treated to a steak dinner, but's unclear what surprises are in store for him this year.
