Kamloops man with knife arrested after attempting to flee police

KAMLOOPS - A Kamloops man in possession of a knife will be released from police custody after being arrested this morning.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police responded to a construction site on McGill Road around 10 a.m. today, Aug. 1, for a report of an unknown male being escorted off the property after allegedly acting strange and appearing to have a knife in his pocket.

Officers arrived and found the man was still in the area. Shelkie says when police detained the man for further investigation, he ran away, attempting to evade the police.

Shelkie says officers apprehended the 20-year-old man and arrested him. He was found to have a knife with a six-inch blade in his pant pocket.

He will be released pending a future court date. Shelkie says the man is from Kamloops and was previously known to police.
