Kamloops man struck by car on Highway 97 in Peachland

PEACHLAND - A Kamloops man struck by a vehicle while walking across Highway 97 in Peachland last night has been released from hospital.

Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes of Highway 97 near Clements Crescent in Peachland just after 6 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 12, according to an RCMP media release.

“According to investigative reports from the scene, the northbound lanes of the highway were empty and southbound traffic was slowing or stopped for a red light at the nearby intersection,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the release. “The pedestrian crossed at an uncontrolled portion of the highway, and reportedly emerged from between stationary vehicles when he was struck by the Toyota now moving forward in the right hand turn lane.”

The 59-year-old Kamloops man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released.

The driver, a Peachland woman in her 60s, cooperated with the investigators, police say. Her vehicle received moderate damage and it was towed from the scene.
