A Kamloops man is in custody after being caught driving dangerously in a stolen vehicle.

Police received a complaint of a silver Sebring being driven erratically on Summit Drive in Kamloops just after 11:20 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 16, according to an RCMP media release.

Minutes later police were contacted by the vehicle’s owner who had just watched it being driven away from the 100-block of Vernon Avenue.

At around 11:30 a.m., officers located the Sebring on the 1400-block of Summit Drive and arrested a suspect, RCMP said.

Craig Curtis Kopichanski, 30, of Kamloops is charged with one count each of motor vehicle theft, dangerous operation of a conveyance, and driving while disqualified. He was also arrested on a warrant for failure to comply with a probation order.

Mr. Kopichanski was remanded in custody with a next appearance date scheduled for Jan. 31.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-1663.
