A Kamloops man is in custody and facing a series of charges relating to a New Year's day break-in and theft of a firearm.

Kamloops RCMP responded Jan. 1, 2021, around 1 p.m., to a report of a break and enter with a possible firearm theft at a business on the 1400 block of Hillside Drive,  RCMP said in a press release distributed by Const. Crystal Evelyn.

While en route to the scene, an officer saw a man matching the suspect's description near Notre Dame Drive.

"The man fled as police approached. Backup officers responded and safely arrested the man," Evelyn said. "Officers on scene at the break and enter cleared the building with the assistance of the Police Dog Services Unit and General Investigation Section Team."

A short time later, a stolen firearm was located in the business's parking lot.

Daniel McClintock, 33, of Kamloops remains in custody and faces one count of Break Enter and Steal Firearm, Breach Probation, Possess Firearm while Prohibited and Mischief.

His next court date is Jan. 11.
