Kamloops keeps police busy

Penticton RCMP are looking for a robbery suspect in connection to a home invasion on Saturday.

KAMLOOPS - Kamloops Mounties responded to 60 calls for service in 10 hours overnight including a fire, armed robbery and plenty for public drunken stupidity.

The fire was at The Lighthouse, at 1605 East Trans Canada Highway started just after 3 a.m. Kamloops Fire and Rescue responded contained the fire to one unit in the complex, says RCMP Staff Sgt. Lane Jumaga. No one was injured and early indications are it was arson. Police have one person of interest in custody pending further investigation.

Also around 3 a.m. police were called to the Mac's Convenience store on 205 Tranquille Road where a man used a knife to get some cash. Multiple units responded including a Police Service Dog. The man is described as Caucasian, 20 to 25 years old, dark hair with a lazy left eye, wearing a blue hoody and had a grey jersey over his face when he demanded the money.

Mostly though, police were called several times to the 700 block of St. Paul St. for "overly intoxicated individuals being unable to behave nor care for themselves properly," Jumaga says. Several men were arrested and given a safe place to sober up in RCMP cells while one highly intoxicated and unconscious man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital. Police believe he fell and knocked himself out.
