KAMLOOPS - Kamloops’ HomeFree Collective is proud to announce this year’s Homelessness Action Week on Oct. 9 to 15.

Homelessness Action Week is an annual event in Kamloops, held in conjunction with other municipalities across B.C. It aims to inform, engage, and listen to what members of our community have to say about homelessness in Kamloops.

Homelessness Action Week will include the following events:

Project Connect – a wellness fair at Spirit Square at the corner of Yew Street and MacKenzie Avenue on the North Shore. The event will feature live music, a barbecue, prizes, and opportunities to connect with service providers. All members of the public are invited to attend on Oct. 13, 2016, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Point-in-Time Count – a one-day event collecting stories and information on homelessness in Kamloops on Oct. 13, starting at 7 a.m.

Activities, educational sessions, and giveaways at various agencies that work with vulnerable or marginalized people throughout the week.

The A Way Home committee will be conducting a Youth Homelessness Count in the week following Homelessness Action Week. The Youth Homelessness Count will survey youth who have experienced homelessness. The survey will be distributed through School District No. 73 and through planned magnet events to help collect information on youth experiencing hidden homelessness to support agencies and services who work with youth. These coordinated efforts make the Youth Homelessness Count in Kamloops the first of its kind in Canada.

Homelessness Action Week, the Point-in-Time Count, and the Youth Homelessness Count are partly funded by the Government of Canada's Homelessness Partnering Strategy - a Federal program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness by directly funding projects and initiatives in Kamloops and in 60 other communities.  Homelessness Action Week is a unique opportunity to celebrate and recognize all citizens of our community.
