KAMLOOPS - Dragon boating is a demanding, exhilarating and fun sport for participants of any age, athletic ability, or paddling experience. Belonging to a dragon boat team helps with physical, mental and emotional health by providing regular exercise, camaraderie, strength and confidence.
This year will be the 3rd Annual Festival and we anticipate 20-25 registrations from various regions of the province. This year we are introducing a community and corporate division for local businesses and organizations who will participate in their own races
Dragon boating 1st emerged in modern times as an international sport in 1976 in Hong Kong. It was first introduced to Canada at Expo 86 in Vancouver. There are now over 50 million participants in 70 countries. Canada has won more medals at international competition than any other country.
The festival takes place August 6 at Riverside Park in conjunction with Ribfest and Hot Night in the City. Check out our website at www.kamloopsdragonboatfestival.com for more information.
